One of my favourites in this area of the south has to be Burnham Beeches (slightly north, between Maidenhead and Slough) - a beautiful woodland area covering acres and acres of free dog-roaming land. There are plenty of footpaths and the odd metalled road to gain access to the park but, to get away from civilisation, simply tramp through the woods. The autumn is simply perfect - the fungi are in abundance, the colours stunning, and the little rivers at their fullest for a mad labrador to enjoy. There are even a couple of refreshment vans about the place for a warming cuppa.
