Castlemorton Common, Malvern Hills
Castlemorton Common Here is another Malvern Hills walk - very close to the last one, it takes in common land, woodland, a water filled quarry and breathtaking views from the top of the Malvern Hills. It's not far, about 3 miles at the most, with a couple of steep pipe openers!! (There is a pub and a seasonal shop half way round though). It's a bit complicated so have included detailed instructions.

Start SO 774 384 Castlemorton Common Park up on dirt vehicle track and walk towards hills. Stay on track even when it turns right, until track ends at a small gate. Dont go through, instead turn left and walk up along hedge until you meet another track. Turn right and walk through the woods with the hills parallel on your left. The path crosses a stream then rises steeply with railings to your left. This is the reservoir. Where the reservoir ends, is a house on your right. At this point you can make 2 choices....

Following the tarmac road will take you to British Camp car park where there is a pub and seasonal shop. (SO 763 403) Afterwards you can join the path higher up from the car park.

Or... follow small path above reservoir (look out for wooden bench to walk past), the path will start to rise steeply, then you join a well looked after path half way up the hills. If you're feeling fit, carry on to the top.

Whichever you do, turn left along the path.

Shortly, you will approach a round man made stone which is a direction finder. SO 762 395 Follow sign for Hangmans Hill for a lovely view of Herefordshire and Worcestershire. When the path drops down a bit you will find yourself at a point with 5 different paths to choose from. 2 are from the area you have just been, one (a stony vehicle track) takes you back down to Castlemorton Common, one takes you up onto the next hill and one is a stony little path which drops down to the woods on the Herefordshire side of the hills. Take this last path, after only 30 yards or so, you meet a landrover type of track. Turn left and walk along this, through the woods with the hills parallel on your left. Stay on this track until you reach a crossroads with a big set of gates (SO 756 380) which go into Eastnor estate and up to an obelisk. (If you feel up to it, that is worth a detour to see) Otherwise, take the left track which drops down to Gullet Quarry (SO 763 381) Walk right past the quarry to the car park then along the tarmac road where you come out onto Castlemorton Common. Walk along the common or lane with the hills on your left and you should soon see you car.
