Dovestone Reservoir, Nr Oldham
On the edge of the mighty Saddleworth moor sits a very pleasant reservoir. Well actually there are a couple but we're looking at the biggest one here, Dovestone. On arrival you'll find a small car park but be warned, it gets busy here in the summer months so get here early or you'll have nowhere to park!

As you can probably guess, your can set off either clockwise or anti-clockwise and basically follow the path around the reservoir. Easy. However, it's far more interesting than that. The path takes you onto moorland, you can meander off to little beaches at the waters edge, take a brief jaunt into the trees and marvel at some spectacular moorland views.

There are always many footpaths off to the side for, the more adventurous, up and over the moors. We've yet to explore these but rest assured we will be.

There is a downside however, there are sheep absolutely everywhere so your dog will have to stay on his lead for the whole walk. Having said that, it is such a pleasant place, I think it's worth the sacrifice just this once.

Summary
A reservoir walk with beach, moorland and trees.

Notes
The car park will cost you 40p for 3 hours or a £1 if you want to stay all day. There's a bugger van for to grab a cuppa in the summer months and loos are available at the car park. Please remember to keep you dog on the lead as there are sheep everywhere.
