Eastham Woods is a wonderful place. Woodland, views, a big field and heaps of history. You're free to wander just about everywhere although there is the odd section closed to dogs (which usually contain lots of squirrels... I would swear they grin at dogs from behind the fence!).
The ample car park is alongside the Mersey offering excellent views of Liverpool and you may even see the off freight ship sale by. The are a couple of big fields for you dog to run around on and a small hill at the far end offering even more spectacular views of Liverpool and the Mersey.
But the biggest and most exciting part of this place are the actual woods. They're pretty big with paths snaking off in all sorts of directions often leading to hidden treasures! Treasure? You see Eastham Woods used to be a Victorian pleasure garden and hence you'll come across over grown gardens, stone steps, old ornamental ponds and even a bear pit!!
Perhaps not the most 'PC' thing by todays standards but the bears are long gone and it's a nice piece of social history. The visitor's centre is however sadly lacking in much to help you discover this history... it's up to you and Fido to find it all out for yourself.
The woods are also brimming with wildlife and wild flowers, it's a magical place.
