Start at the car park at the bottom of helston, on the Porthleven Road.
Go to the far end of the car park and follow the path, this will take you to part of the Penrose estate.
When you get to a choice of routes, take the left hand lane, and follow this down to Loe Bar and beach.
You now have to make another choice, you can either follow the path around the lake, and back to the car park... or, a much better choice is to go along the coast path to Gunwalloe, and a really great pub called the Halzephron.
This was cornish pub of the year. It is a bit expensive, but the chips are good and there is plenty of seating outside, no problems with dogs.
You then retrace you steps and get back to the car park at Helston.
The trip around the lake is about 6 or 7 miles, and if you include the pub, probably add 3 more to this.

Strong undercurrents but a superb pub!
A very good car park in Helston which is free.
Do not allow dogs or people to swim in the sea. There is a VERY strong undercurrent and people are drowned here every year. The lake is safe.
