Parking at Houghton Mill (itself a National Trust site) you head out along the river. In the spring and summer months there are caravans near the mill and cows are left to graze on some of the fields so close control is a must. When the fields are free however, you will enjoy acres of wide open fields skirted by the river Great Ouse. Around the fileds there are easy going footpaths to adjacent the adjacent towns of Hemingford Abbots and the historic St.Ives (the latter route forms part of the Ouse Valley Way).

Beautiful riverside walks that allow us to use up the energy of our flatcoat retriever (a very large and slobbery Henry) for 2 hours or more. Apologies to all innocent bystanders who fall victim to an over-exuberent, muddy but well meaning black dog.
At the mill there is a tea shop (from Apr to Oct), lavatories and in the village of Houghton there are a few handy shops.
