Loggerheads Country Park, Denbighshire
Just over the border of wonderful Wales is Loggerheads Country Park which offers an excellent circular walk through some glorious woodland. There's plenty of parking, a cafe and shop, and even a bus that will drop you off. It gets pretty busy but it's amazing how quickly the crowds vanish when you set off walking. You can ramble around various paths but there's one distinct route, clearly sign posted, which takes you on a circular walk over the brook, up the hill and back down again to the car park. Watch out for the trek back down, there's a long and steep set of wooden steps than can be a little slippery in adverse weather. But it's well worth the hike as the views from the top of the cliffs are spectacular and there's a glorious grassed outcrop, a cracking place to get the picnic out on a sunny day. For our 4 legged friends, they are free to roam lead free and keep an eye out for squirrels. One final thing... when following the main path, take time out to walk down to Devils Gorge (clearly signposted just before you go up the hill). When you get there you'll have to turn round and head back to pick up the trial again but it's worth it... you're treated to a huge gorge in the rock... how far in will you dare go?
