Mentioned in accounts of Ketts Rebellion in 1592.
The wild atmosphere of this most valuable open space, full of historic memories, has been carefully.
Conveyed by the Dean and Chapter of Norwich to Norwich Corporation in 1880 it was dedicated to the free use of the people by the Mayor John Gurney in 1886.
A wonderful place for walking dogs, full of trees and moorland.
The Norwich City Council have named it the 'Countryside in your back garden'.
This is because it is surrounded by housing.
There are gentle path walks, more strenuous climbs and the muscle straining uphill walks.
There is a fairly large pond in winter and spring but tends to dry up without rain.
It is bounded by road on all 4 sides and has a golf course in the middle which does not open till March. Great for ball throwing.
I spend 90 minutes a day walking full out with my dog and could spend a lot longer.
