From the staggered free car park, there are 2 well marked routes you can take. Firstly the Reservoir walk which is a pleasant amble around the reservoir, over the dam, and back to the car park. However, dogs must be kept on a lead on this walk.
The second and prefered option is the Woodland walk. This is a longer walk and involves a few inclines through the woodland that surrounds the reservoir. There are a couple of benches along the route offering some spectacular views. Again, access back to the car park is across the dam.
Keep a look out for the woodland sculptures along the way! We seem to spot a new one everytime we visit.
I am particularly fond of Ogden Water, not just because of the wonderful walks, but because of the conservation efforts they make. There is a 'dog toilet' by the car park which is a small area of woodland, fenced off, where you're encouraged to let your dog get it over with before you set off on your walk.
There are also bins around the reservoir itself. Much of the fencing you'll encounter around the reservoir is recylced from fallen trees and branches. Also, there are occasional stiles (although you won't need to use any if you follow the routes exactly) which are totally dog friendly.
And all this with free entry and a free car park. The Calderdale Countryside & Forestry Unit have made a real effort with Ogden Water and I urge you to use the donation box if you enjoy the facilities. Well done Calderdale.
See Walk 2 for details of the spectacular waterfall and moorland walk.

A wonderful reservoir and woodland walk with some spectacular views.
Free car parking. There's a small visitors centre (with a donations box outsite), picnic areas and public loos strangely piping in Classic FM. There's also a pub and restaurant at the end of the road.
You may encounter the odd stile but they're all dog friendly.
You can get a great PDF map courtesy of Yorkshire Water here.
