My name is Lesley and my husband George and I, together with Jess our greyhound love to walk from Porthcawl lifeboat station which you can't miss if you go to the harbour (Jess on lead here) along the promenade, then across the cliffs (Jess off lead for the rest of the walk) which are flat, and topped with springy well drained moorland and then, if the tide is out, down on to the beach at Rest Bay (dogs allowed Oct to May) and along the flat sands for as long as you like. If the tide is in, you can walk along the coast next to the golf course, but its a bit of a scramble in places, and we prefer to just return across the cliffs back to where we've parked. Though its not a circular walk, you can do bits of it depending on the tide and your inclination. It's an easy walk (Ramblers wouldn't take it seriously) and perfect for families. There is good parking at various points along the way, especially out of season Lots of other dog users are around.
Please, please always clean up after your dog, especially on the beach, which is a surf heaven - that doesn't mean burying the poo either! They will close this beach to dogs if some of the mess continues, and we will only have ourselves to blame.
